Injection Mold StringWinder

As part of a course in Integrated CAD/CAM/CAE, I designed and manufactured an injection molded string winder for my guitar. I machined the molds out in a Haas CNC Minimill and injection molded the parts in a Morgan press. This was a sequel project to the previous urethane molded string winder.

This project exposed me to doing flow analysis in SolidWorks, designing a CNC-machined mold optimized for efficient part release, minimal sink and warp, and the ability to permit future mold modification. I collaborated with Enhui Zou on this project. After a few trial runs to calibrate critical factors such as such nozzle temperature and injection pressure, we were able to produce a new part out every 5 minutes.
